Bruce, we can come up with the part no on the speedometer driven gear and shaft with some more information. There was a dizzying number of part numbers used in '53. The number varied according to transmission type (already known to be synchromesh), rear axle ratio, car series (Special series 40), and early or late production. Once the part number is known, it will be possible to tell which other models used the same number.
About 3/1/53 the rear axle was redesigned. As a result Buick also changed the speedometer driving gear inside the transmission. Then that led to new numbers for the driven gear.
What has been, can be again. (Bob Wills, 1942)
