Cool Cranked 248ci for 1st Time

Ran through all the usual hoops to get the car ready to crank (MMO and Seafoam). Hasn't been cranked since 1972 according to last owner, who supposedly never cranked it, which I believe. The engine ran beautifully. Idled around 350rpm, zero smoke, no odd noises, and no leaks. I need to rebuild the fuel pump, but that will be a joy now that I know how well the engine runs. When I pulled the valve cover, everything was clean as a whistle.

My question is, what color were replacement engines? My engine is black. I thought the engines were supposed to be turquoise. The car is a 1959 Buick Special Sedanette 43D. Odometer, which is upside down, shows 54,496 miles. The original owner is still alive, but suffering from dementia. The guy I bought it from never tried to crank it. From the service records in the car, and its tag, it last ran in 1972. When I picked it up, about 10-old men showed up to say goodbye to the car. Seems the original owner used to give the little kids rides in the car, and for most of them, it was their first time to ride in a car (small town in NC). No smoke, no noise does not sound like a 55,000 mile engine. Is there any way to tell if the engine is a replacement?

I was going to dump this engine for a V-8, but not now. I think I am going to like this old car. It will get power steering and power drum brakes (why drums? because I prefer them).

Replacement engines were black. Original engines, all I have seen, were black under the turquoise. Too bad the turquoise did not stick as well as the black.
    Pictures?
The engine number, just in front of the distributor, should tell us something about it. A picture of that would be nice.

    Aha!

This one has never been painted anything but black.

I'll post some nice pictures of it tomorrow. It is a bit rough.

This is what it looked like in the barn after 30 years of storage.

I checked the odometer. It reads 54,496 miles.

Love that fastback styling, the grill is a bit toothy but what a statement, that 248 will run forever.

Fantastic Barn Find - Not Buick

Just so you know there are still barn finds to find. We found these and a whole bunch of other stuff. Had a job to clean out three storage barns on a guy's property. Second barn find this year (including '50 Buick). Guy sold us the car (titled) for $1000 (our first offer), the rest we got for free (couple of tons of Snap On tools and equipment). We got paid to haul it all off. Still hauling. All within 10-miles of home. If you want more pics of the Marlin, let me know. It was 100% complete and had just been painted when stored.
