Cool Hi I'm new here & i am seeking information on a Buick Nailhead engine

Hi I'm Fred Thanks for adding me to your group i recently purchased a 36 Ford Coupe with a Buick nailhead engine i was told by the seller it was a 401 & was hoping someone could help me with some information
The engine number on the front of the block in front of the valley cover is 5H940607 & on the passenger side is 48b it has a dual 4 barrel intake manifold with dual edelbrock 500cfm carburetors
the intake manifold looks to be factory the casting number is 1370316B. The casting number on the engine block is B B1364705 & the casting number on the cylinder heads is 1196914 from the information i can gather its a 401 from 64-66 but i'm not sure if the intake manifold would have came out on this engine & was hoping someone can confirm what i have by the information i have given

    Thanks
    Fred

    5H940607

that's an attenuated version of the VIN that is termed an EIN, it would match the car that the engine came from.

so that looks to be a 1965 Riviera manufactured in Flint.

    it decodes like this
    5 = 1965
H = Flint Michigan Buick plant
940607 = sequential production number starting at 100001 but Electras and Rivs each had their own unique number series and the Riv series starts at 900001.

which, if the dual quad is original to the engine, should mean that it's a 425ci.

the two digit Engine Code stamping would provide a definite ID as to whether the engine was original dual quad or not, as well as displacement. it should show an "LX" for 1965.

Thanks Bob after having another look i found LT stamped on the passenger side of the block which confirms its a 401 so I'm guessing the intake manifold must have been added to the engine.

    It's a 1965 401

    L is in the sequence for 1965. J=63, K=64, L=65, and M=66

T is for the 325 hp, single four barrel 401
W is for the 340 hp single four barrel 425.
X is for the 360 hp dual four barrel 425
T, W, are good for all year; X is good for 64 and 65.

Intake manifold is for '65-'66. '64 would end in a 106
