on the one hand, i'd go smaller just because of concern over keeping exhaust velocity up.
on the other, a 2v 300ci is not likely to be much of a tire roaster anyways. so ... go with the exhaust that produces the most pleasing note?
if you decide to build up the 300, there's an aluminum 4v intake / heads available from 1964 only.
and then there is also a cast iron 4v intake that you can get from 1965 and maybe some in 1966.
and then there's the notorious option of swapping in a Buick 340 / 350 crankshaft.
