    67 Skylark engine swap

Iím thinking about swapping my 300 for a Chevy 350 anybody got any tips on what I would need to do this. I also have a 455 out of a 70-73 I could put in which is better. The 300 runs great just want a little more power. Thereís not a lot of after market stuff for 300 engine and the 350 is already built with good stuff, has manual fuel pump no need for Electronics other than ignition. Thanks for any input.

most everything on the SBC and SBB are backwards too each other.

so you'd probably be best off just stealing everything out of a small block Chevelle. you know, fan shrouds, wiring harnesses, engine mounts, etc.

people have put a Buick 350 crank into a 300 block ( 340ci on the stock bore ), but that can get a little pricey.

www.TAPerformance.com also has aluminum heads for the 300 / Rover which flow pretty well.

Great, I was hoping that they would have more in common. I do like the shaft mounted rockers that Buick have, they are probably more stable at higher RPMís. I havenít been into a Buick engine very far yet. Thanks for info.

Hot Rod magazine actually did that 350 crank swap. it's in the March 2011 issue. the 340 is the same crank as the 350 but those engines are much more rare, only being produced in 1966-67. and there's not really any point in grabbing a 340 aside from the crankshaft because they used the same castings for the heads ( ie - way undersized for a 5.6L engine ) and exhausts that the 300 did.

Buick 350 production ran from 1968-1981 and they can be found in anything from an Electra to an Apollo / Skylark.

the one thing i'd criticize in Marlan's article is that he recommended using the stock rods. most of the guys going b.a.l.l.s. out with a SBB are getting NASCAR take out rods and then ordering pistons for them.

if you've never built a Buick before, be sure and look up the articles on oil system mods and keep your bearing clearances to 2 thousandths or less.

K thanks for info. Iím not go to be able to spend a lot on the SBB, I did spend about 8000 on the CSB, itís been in my garage for about five years waiting to get put in something. ĎĎIts got about 496 torque 475 HP. It would be nice to have in my Skylark.
