Good day chaps
New to the site and Buick with a gifted '66 Skylark 340-4 hardtop. The car has been through the weather though and the vinyl top didn't help so I have a lot of work there while keeping the rodents out.
Question though, was the GS ever a package with the 340 V8?
Glad to keep the cars alive
Thank you sir.
Glad to to find the invaluable amount of information here.
you got GIFTED a GS 340?
lucky *******.
check out Buick 90 degree v6s, and Rover v8s for many compatible parts. you can get cranks or HEI distributors out of a 350. 350 heads / intake / exhausts / cam / pistons will NOT work.
we've also got several articles on building the older small blocks in the reference section.

Thanks for the info on parts Bob, it has a hotter cam now but I definitely want to add HEI while re-wiring the bay.
The issue is that I was gifted this AFTER the rats and other animals had done their bidding inside while Mother Nature was taking the outside back, namely the vinyl roof and metal. So lucky is not quite the word I would use at this point with the mountain of fecal matter I just cleaned out of the trunk. Ha
Also, I have some conflicting information on the car so I'm still discerning whether it is a true GS or not and if it is a '66 as the door tag states or '67 as the previous owner states.
post pics of the vin tag, trim tag and ( if you've got it ) build sheet.
also the EIN stamping, if you can find it.

HEI comes into general production in 1975 so look for a Buick 350 from 1975-81 which is the end of v8 production by Buick. you could also pull an HEI out of a 75-76 455ci, but you'd have to swap out the gear at the bottom of the shaft. the small block and big block have different tooth counts.
