The chassis number also has a prefix digit indicating which plant assembled the car. In this case 2 = California plant. The remaining digits are the sequential build number for the car. It is typical for the engine number to run several thousand ahead of the chassis or frame number.
As a further check, the engine number and the chassis number are both about 36-38% into the number ranges for 1940 models.
The paint code combinations for 1940 ran from 541 through 557. Maybe yours is something like 553? Trim code 810 = Tan Bedford cord-(2 tone).
The sound of the inline 8 is unique. Very smooth at any speed. My favorite description of its sound is that of a bee flying around in a jug.
What has been, can be again. (Bob Wills, 1942)
