    1966 340 Rocker Arm Strength for Performance Springs

    We are installing a Crower cam in our 340. We are having Crower make up a stronger set of push rods. The new springs with the cam kit have about 100 pounds more tension than the stock springs.
    The question is has anyone had problems with the stock aluminum rockers with racing springs, springs not of radical pressures? If there were problems, at what level of spring tension did it happen?

    an alternative to stiffer springs on the valve side would be to adapt an Isky Rev Kit

    this provides better control of the lifters while adding precisely zero additional stress to pushrods and rockers.

    the only reason i even know that Rev Kits exist is because an old timer mentioned using these to build a high reving 322 back in the late 50s.

    I am familiar with rev kits. Crower recommended the springs we have because they were concerned about coil bind with the stock springs. The springs they recommended have smaller wire diameter than the stock springs and are a more open wind. They are dual, the inner also an open wind with smaller wire diameter. The result is the springs have no chance of coil bind and still are not drastically higher than the stock springs in rate because the wire they are made from is smaller diameter. Think of a spring as being a torsion bar wrapped in a coil. The larger the diameter of the bar, the higher the rate.
