Larry70gs, I've been thinking the same thing but looking at how oils perform in stressful heat matters because I know foaming will kill quickly too.
Synthetic oil withstands heat way better than conventional oil, and it flows better in the cold as well. Keeping the oil away from the crank goes along way in avoiding foaming. The problem with diesel oils is diesels are low RPM engines, so they may not have the anti foaming additives present in racing type gas engine oils.
