    430 heads on 455 block

    Hi everyone,

I have found very good condition heads casting number 1377979 on 430 engine, on BBB casting numbers : https://www.teambuick.com/forums/vie...bers_big_block , says that this casting number is for 400, 430, 455 engines. So please anyone can help me on following questions:

Can I use them on my 1974 455 engine with 455 rocker arms and lifers etc.? I guess I must Block the oil passages on heads.

Can I use standard 455 head gasket for this heads?

Can I use 455 stage 1 valves on this heads?

and at the end what will be my compression ratio with this modifications with 1974 pistons?

part of the compression loss in 1974 is due to the deep piston dishes, so you're not going to get all the way to 10:1 CR.

i know Yardley did an old head onto 455 conversion back in the day, but i think he used the 430 rockers. which caused issues, because the 430 and 455 use different diameter pushrods.

yes, you should be able to use Stage 1 valves. the primary problem with big valves in the 430 / 400 was shrouding.

yes, it would be good practice to block all extraneous oil passages. you should compare your heads to the block deck and gaskets just to be sure. this page says you shouldn't use the steel shim gasket for an old head onto an oval water passage block.

I will change pistons to KB 1730H for better specs,

But I want to use stock 455 rockers and pushrods and don`t know if with this system my pushrods size will be fine or not?

Also I don`t know if can I use 455 intake on those heads, maybe with small changes or not?

You have to use a 430 intake.
some aftermarket intakes fits both 430 and 455.
