I recently traded in my '53 super eight and purchased a '69 skylark.
I just noticed that it's leaking a little bit of steering fluid at the pitman shaft seal.
Does anybody have a reference number for this seal? this way hoping to buy it here in the Netherlands.
To be accurate and clear; it's the seal with at the outgoing pitman shaft (so the pitman arm is a little wet of steering fluid)
There are two seals on the Pitman shaft. Two washers and a snap ring hold the seals in position below the bearing. The seals, washers, and snap ring were supplied in a Pitman arm seal kit, GM part number 5685355. See attached pages from the 1972 Buick Master Chassis Parts Book. This kit number was later superceded by number 7826470.
This kit was used on many GM vehicles for decades from the late '50s to mid '80s. One aftermarket supplier, Timken, has a kit PSK1 that replaces the GM numbers. Not sure which suppliers you will have access to in The Netherlands. Hopefully they will be able to come up with a cross reference, since the kit was widely used.
