    1967 Buick Skylark engine swap

    We put a 1970 GS 455 motor into a 1967 Buick Skylark, it had a 300 originally. We are having a hard time finding a power steering bracket and pulley that will work. Has anyone out there put a 455 into a 67 A body? Or can anyone tell me the part #'s for the 1967 GS 400 pulleys and brackets? I have read that the 400 and 455 are the same size externally, so the brackets and pulleys should be interchangeable. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

    they even use the same crankshaft, it's just a smaller bore in the 400 / 430.

    www.TAPerformance.com may have some OEM stuff laying around.

    The pump mounting parts are the same for the '67 GS400 and the '70 GS455 according to Buick parts books.

    A cast aluminum bracket part no 1378150 attaches to the engine. This part is used on Buick '67 A body except with AIR pump, '68-70 A body V8, and '67-68 LeSabre.

    Stamped steel brackets (called adapters by Buick) attach to the aluminum bracket and the pump. Front bracket is a 1378368. Rear is 1378369. These are used on '67-70 GS400-455 and '68-69 SportWagon 400. Different adapters are used on the V6 and small block V8.

    The A body parts book printed in 1970 shows the pulley is a 1384927 for '67-68 cars (except L6). The '69-70 cars (except L6) use part no 1386935. The later Master Parts book printed in 1972 shows the 1386935 for all '67-70 Buicks (except L6). Examples found on the Internet have the part number stamped in the pulley.

    The pump for '70 Buick A body V8 cars is a 7807378. Otherwise the '67-69 cars that use the aluminum bracket have a pump no 5698071. The difference in the pumps is thought to be minor since the brackets used are the same.

    Thanks for the information. I will check the parts numbers you listed here with the ones we have. The latest set we tried, unsuccessfully, was off of a 1970 Buick Electra that had a 455 in it.
    So, have you ever heard of anyone having a problem with the power steering pump hitting the steering box on a switch like this? We have been fighting with it for a while now. It gets pretty discouraging at times! I appreciate the attachments.

    Note the position of the pump in the picture. A body cars need the pump mounted high as the steering box is on the back side of the cross member. The big cars have the pump sitting lower and the box in front of the cross member. That's your problem. You need A body pump mounts.

    brackets

    Do you happen to know where I can find a set of these power steering pump brackets/adapters. I was able to locate the pulley, but not the brackets/adapters yet.

    Original Parts Group www.opgi.com shows a set of reproduction stamped steel brackets (adapters), their S240216. These are supposed to fit '69-70 Skylark/GS cars with 350/400/455 motors. Don't know why these don't go back and pick up the '67-68 models.

    They may be designed for universal application on small block and big block applications as opposed to the original Buick adapters. These adapters likely will be harder to find as used parts than the aluminum bracket. It would be a lucky find to spot a pair in a SportWagon. Hopefully the OPGI pieces will work.

    For the aluminum bracket, I would start searching salvage yards for non-sporty models that use it. Some similar ones that turned up on the Net have the part number cast into the back. Started off by Googling "parting Buick LeSabre 1967", then ...1968, then ...Special 1967 and so on.

    This search is not easy. There's not much out there on eBay. For several years guys have been posting messages here and there looking for these pieces. Even Jeep guys are looking for the brackets to add PS to Jeeps that used Buick engines. Good Luck.
