    here's the 72 reference page
    https://www.teambuick.com/reference/years/72.php

    here's the 71 chassis manual
    https://www.teambuick.com/reference/...ssis/index.php

    ST72 = 1972 model year
    4 = Buick division
    33 = Skylark base model
    37? = 2dr hardtop
    L1 = should be the plant code, 'L' is the Van Nuys CA Chevy plant, probably not correct
    237718 = sequential Body Number
    TR 135 = Saddle ( brown ) color vinyl interior, could be either buckets or a notch bench
    65 = Flame Orange paint
    A = White vinyl roof
    05BA65 = option codes, i don't have

    what are you looking for? we have a member who does have the option codes, there really isn't any other information contained on the Body Tag except that you didn't give us the Build Date codes. and that's only going to tell you the month and week of production.

    in 1972 the VIN will code what the original engine option should be with the car.

    1972 is one of the few years that the Sloan should have microfiche for, so you can get a copy of your VIN report

    http://new.sloanlongway.org/automotive-research/
    "VIN reports feature the same information as found on Buick Motor Division's invoice forms. All reports list options, invoice amount, invoice date, color, trim, key codes, order number, and dealer number. A copy of the wholesale car order form is also included. Using the wholesale car order form, you are able to “decode” the options and accessories which came original to the vehicle as it was produced by the factory."

    To round out the decoding details:

    05B is the body build date. 05 = May, B = 2nd week.

    A65 = Notchback bench seat.

    TR135 = White vinyl trim (our reference section table has an error).

    ?L1 = should be FL1 which indicates Flint, MI body plant.
