    Removing wiper/washer switch on a ´76 Electra

    Hi all,

I have no light on the wiper switch on my ´76 Electra, so tonight I wanted to fix that. Removed the trim panel from the dashboard, loosened the tabs that hold the switch at the bottom. But...for the life of me, I just can´t get the thing to budge. According to the workshop manual, there should be two locking tabs at the top that need to be undone through the "top slots". Anyone here have any experience with this?

Second question: The manual says there is a "seelite cable" presumably for the illumination. Is this e.g. some kind of fiber optic, rather than a conventional bulb?

Yes, the seelite is a fiber optic cable leading up to the switch. The light source is a #192 incandescent lamp. Lamp is likely burned out (rated life is only 1000 hr). Lamp socket is mounted in an in-line shroud. This shroud is where the fiber optic cable originates. Wires feeding socket are gray and black.

I can't elaborate beyond the shop manual on how to remove the switch. It may be possible to replace the lamp from behind the dash without removing the switch.

Could not not find a good drawing for the '76. Instead here is a drawing of a similar seelite used on the '70 cruise control.

    Thanks :)

Many thanks Todd, that´s very helpful. I´ll have another look under the dash to chase that fiber optic cable. Maybe I won´t have to remove the wiper switch at all.
