Hi,
Just dropped the spring and removed the upper and lower control arms on the passenger's side of my 66 Lesabre. The lower ball joint pressed right out but it seems there are two tack welds holding in the upper ball joints. I have replacements that are taller and threaded with a large nut.
It almost looks as if this new ball joint could fit into the iron housing that is welded into the control arm. I asked about welding the new parts in and no one seems too keen on it as the new ball joints may contain nylon.
Has anyone run into this problem? Is there a work around? I'd really like to replace these upper ball joints. Dose anyone know of an aftermarket upper control arm for a 66 LeSabre/ Wildcat?
Thanks,
Scott
1st. check to make SURE your old uppers are worn out. DON'T just replace them for the heck of it. Inferior parts are abundant today & may wear out long before the old/original ones do. IF they do need replacing just cut the tack welds on the old ones. This was the way they came from the factory. DO NOT weld the new ones in, use the nut.
