Hello im chris and i got a 1965 Riviera

Thanks for having me and sorry for my english, im swiss and doing my best to write right πŸ˜„

Just like to tell you something about my ride and hope you can tell me some more πŸ˜‰
I learned alot on "teambuick.com" so i can now decode my VIN and hope to know my enginetyp. So here is my VIN --> 494475H923363, that should tell me that i have a "Buick; Riviera; 2-door Hardtop Coupe; 1965; built in Flint MI; Number 923363"
This VIN-Number matches with the plate on driversdoor, fisher body plate, engine and also on a plate with GM (France) on it. Now on the engine i can find also the "LX 330" and i got the 2x4barrel cab. with the super wildcat on it.
So it must be the 425 engine like in a GS right? But what says the 330?
What im also confused about is, there are no "Grand Sport" letters on the fenders or the inside of the car. i also reed about some riviera's that was normaly built and just got this 425 engine in it.
What do you think about it?

    thanks for your time!

Welcome from Chris who also has a 65 Riviera with Dual Quads (Gran Sport)!

You can have a dual quad LX engine without it being a Gran Sport. Read all about here:

    https://rivowners.org/features/Ev_Stats/65gs/

It is very likely that you have one of the 454 Riviera's built with the A-8 engine option (Dual Quad 425) but not the A-9 option (Gran Sport).

In 1965 Buick built 34,586 Riviera's, of these: 28,467 were equipped with the standard 401 ci engine (LT), 2,311 with the optional 425 ci (LW) and 3,808 with the Super Wildcat 425 dual 4 bbl (LX). There were 3,354 Gran Sports built in 65. The remaining 454 dual four engines were installed in standard Riviera's as an A-8 engine option.

The "330" after the LX is a coding system used by Buick to track of when during the production year the engine was produced.

    Thanks, Chris

    Great thanks!!

Hi and many thanks for the detailed answer!

Nice to hear and also good to know that there are people who know very well.

So I have no real Grand Sport but therefor an even rarer riviera with A-8 option. This is great thanks 😄

    Have a great time!
    Chris
