    glass setting tape choices

I'm about to replace a cracked door glass on my '51 Special Model 48D 2-dooor sedan. I know I should buy some glass setting tape for the glass to door regulator installation. There are various thicknesses offered, and prices are all over the map. (From $1 per roll to $1.50 per foot.) Does anyone have a suggestion about what thickness, material, and quality I should be looking for?

With your window up, you should be able to see the edge of the glass tape. It should be easy to see if it is a thick tape or a thin tape, and that should help you decide what thickness to get. Another way is to remove the glass from the channel and see what thickness it is. Keep in mind that it is probably crushed slightly.
You should be able to buy a short piece of the cork tape from a local glass shop for a couple of bucks, and if you are still unsure of what thickness to get, take the glass and the channel in with you and they should be able to help determine what thickness to use.

The '46-'57 Buick Parts Catalogue shows two thicknesses of glass channel filler were used on all models of these years.

    Part no 603954 (later 370389) was 1/32" thick x 1-1/2" wide.
    Part no 603955 (later 370390) was 3/64" x 1-1/2".

Was not able to find out which applications used which thickness. Looked in Chevy parts books and found the same two items. Offerings on the web look to be a black rubber material.

Maybe this will will narrow the search down some.
