    1973 riviera can't go past 1/4 throttle

    Hello all ,
Just picked up a 73 riv with 71k on the clock.. Car has had some recent work on it, fairly new exhaust, hei distributor, new wires, new plugs.. Fresh filters. Fuel is fresh, car was a off the road for a year.. Fuel is good, no problems with bad gas car drives good as long as you don't try to give it any substantial throttle.. Threw a fresh carb on it from Rockauto just because.. Checked everything.. Fuel delivery, timing, no vacuum leaks. Out of gear motor sounds strong, no bog or hesitation, seconderies open, motor sounds strong, should be able to burn the tires right.. Wrong ,in gear , go past 1/4 throttle and it farts, hesitates , feels like your blowing the spark off the plugs( figuratively speaking).. In Gear, Normal driving, car runs fine 70 -80 miles an hour car has great power at 1/4 throttle or less..
Can any one help with this before I get mad at it and start ripping the motor down??

    Please help.... Steve..

    1973 riv can't go past 1/4 throttle

When giving any throttle past 1/4 the vacuum advance plate moves pulling on a small wire .. you can't see the broken wire cause the insulation is still in tact . Can be repaired but why bother.. Just yank it out and throw in a new one.. Many vendors on Ebay .. New Hei unit 109.99 shipped.. Cured...

Petronix makes a nice electronic ign. unit that replaces the points in your stock distributor so you keep the factory look (if that is important). I have one in my 1969 GS400 and love it.

Best of luck with that Riv.
