    72 riviera ignition key problems

About a year ago someone pulled the steering wheel to replace the key cylinder. But, never got around to it. I've just acquired this 72 Riviera that needs a fair bit of work. I put in the new cylinder. the key turns to the accessory position. It turns a little towards run but jams. I can see the lock rod on the left side rise about 1/8 inch. the upper shaft bearing is broken and i fished out all but 3 ball bearings. Don't know if those are in the column and i can't find them or just lost somewhere else. Any thoughts would help.

The shop manual details how to disassemble the column. Mechanism is complicated especially for a tilt column. The 1971 shop manual on this site (chapter 90) has the needed info along with exploded parts drawings. I checked it vs the '72 manual and can't find any difference.

It indicates the column needs to be removed from the car if going farther than replacing the lock cylinder. Don't know any way to replace the bearing and search for missing pieces without further disassembly.
