    VIN on body tag?

I've been challenged that the VIN is supposed to be stamped on the body tag. Is this true?

No, the vin is in the driver side door opening on a tag. The motor will have the last 8 digits of the vin stamped on the valley pan rail if it is original to the car.

The number to the left of the BODY or BDY letters on the cowl tag is the unit number assigned at Fisher Body. This number will not match any numbers in the VIN.

    no.

the Trim ( body ) Tag will have most of the same information presented with many of the same codes but the layout is entirely different.

your VIN should look something like this:
    4 66 67 5 H 1xxxxx

in which the '5' is the code for 1965. the Trim Tag actually uses '65' and moves the year to the left side of the Style information.

'H' is the VIN code for the Buick plant in Flint MI and *may* be stamped this way on the Trim Tag but is usually stamped as "FL1".

the '1xxxxx' is the sequential production number off of the main assembly line and has nothing to do with the Fisher body number.
