Lightbulb EGR Valve tube - is it vehicle specific (06 LeSabre, 3.8 L)

    Hi,
I am new to your form and registered here to get closer to Buick tech stuff.
So, I've got an 06 LeSabre, 3.8 L, and here's the problem. Recently there appeared 'check engine' thing on teh dash. So I went to a guy who's got that code reader, and it says that EGR failed. He looked into it colser, and says that the valve itself is okay, but the tube has to be replaced. And I was wondering, if I may go with a kind of regular tube there, as dealership wants $150+ for the tube for my LeSabre.... Is it so vehicle-specific?
Any comments are highly appreciated J

Hey, have got an update, guys. That EGR tube is really vehicle specific, at least judging from what the dealer told me. And, online stores also have different tubes listed for different years and models. I thought of getting just the other tube, but the thing about is, that the tube material has to withstand high temperature and influence of non-filtered exhaust fumes. So for now I think I'd better get that direct replacement tube (aftermarket one, like this https://www.carid.com/egr-tubes/), but that's made specifically for my LeSabre. I guess that's the most suitable variant for me.

well, an EGR is at least going to be fairly particular for the specific engine family you're working with.

a GM 3.8L is a fairly commonly used light duty engine though, and should be widely available in scrap yards. i would look for any of these models, 2003 or newer

you didn't say if you were supercharged or not. obviously, stay with the version of the engine you've got.

also note the service issues listed in the wiki article and make sure that those corrections have been made to your engine. engine fires and hydrolocking are both REALLY major problems that you don't want to have.
