    63 lessabre 2 door h/t 4 speed 425

    I am restoring a 63 Le sabre 2 door hard top. It has a factory 4 speed (a7 acc code plate). It also came with a 425 engine (jw code on block), The engine block number is the same as the vehicle id number. This vehicle is a matching number car.

    What information can you give me on this vehicle.
    thanks,
    Jerry

    According to the factory literature I've seen, the 425 was only available in the Wildcat and Riveria in 1963, but I suspect you could get it in the Electra and LeSabre as well since I've seen both with the 425. Do you have a picture of the cowl tag you could post?

    yep, it's matching number all right. i'll get the easy stuff out of the way so Steve can focus his more valuable time on the accessory codes.

    VIN
    4 J 1 096563
    4 = Le Sabre
    J = 1963
    1 = Flint, MI
    096563 = sequential production #

    EIN
    4J1096563
    same as above

    05B
    STYLE 63-4447 FB 6940 BODY
    TRIM 476 KK * PAINT
    ACC. A7 ES6 I6K6 P1F

    05B = 2nd week of May production
    STYLE 63 = 1963
    4 = Buick
    4 = Le Sabre, B-body
    47 = 2dr Coupe

    FB = Flint, MI Buick plant
    6940 BODY = sequential body #

    TRIM 476 = Red vinyl interior
    KK * PAINT = monochrome paint job, K isn't shown for 63 but in 64 it's Sunburst Yellow
    ACC. A7 = 4speed synchromesh

    Bob,

    thank you for the information. The paint code is NN making it burgundy. I know that this is a rare vehicle being it is 425, four speed car. Just trying to get as much information together as I can. In the process of doing a frame off restoration. Also on the right front side of the block, the number there starts with JW making it 425.
    again thank you,
    Jerry

    holy crap, i need new glasses.

    have to say, the Burgundy Metallic makes a lot more sense for a red interior.

    E = I think this indicates rear seat speaker, although the complete code is E6
    S6 = Protection Group - Door Guards and Gasoline Filler Door Guard
    I6 = Soft-Ray Tinted Glass
    K6 = Custom Padded Cushions
    P1 = Custom Bright Exterior Moldings
    F = I think this indicates F6 which is Instrument Panel Lower Safety Pad and Safety Group (backup lights, glare proof mirror, parking brake signal light, safety buzzer, trip odometer, and courtesy lights)

    Hello Jerry! That is a fantastic find, great combination on your car.
    JW engines were pretty rare in 63. I have got some Daily Production Reports for 63 Wildcats...
    I better see if the LeSabre ones are lurking around. Great job too, keep us posted.

    Ted,

    Thank you for showing interest in the 63 Le Sabre. I met you in Springfield at the BCA NATIONALS two years ago. This vehicle was bought out of Winner South Dakota. I had brought it to the attention of Pete Phillips (Buick Bugle) and talked about my wanting to buy the vehicle. When I picked up the vehicle and found out that there was a 425 in it instead of the 401, Pete and I both felt someone had replaced the engine. At that point I was thinking of making a toy out of it instead of restoring it original. I already have a 63 Le Sabre four speed that was restored original. It was in the Buick Bugle after the Portland BCA Nationals in 2014. Pete talked me into checking the numbers before doing anything to the vehicle. That was when I found out it was a number matching vehicle. After seeing the photos of the vin tags, Pete told me it may be an One of One do to the 425 engine. I am now doing a total frame off on it, making it original I will be glad to keep you informed on the progress.

    The prototype vehicle you brought to Springfield was very impressive. Thank you for taking the time to show it to me in detail, including the trunk that you said very few people get to see and how the one wheel was made.

    thanks,

    Jerry Bernard

    Ted,

    I am sorry, I had mistaken you for the owner of the 53 concept car at Springfield. I have since been educated on who you are. Again, thank you for the interest in my vehicle. I will keep you informed on how it is going.
