    trying to I.D. 3 engines

    block casting # 1165752
    stamped in block V8439294
    head casting # 1166349-10

    block casting # I939II94
    stamped in block 1933418
    head casting unknown

    block casting # 1169334
    stamped in block B9173692
    head casting # 1168930

    thanks for help. love those nailheads. Oh- it must be a rare occasion to find a double groove pulley for the crankshaft for what I believe is a 55 322?????
    thanks

    The first one shows as a '55 264 according to the "Buick Engine Identification, by the numbers" linked above. The block casting number doesn't show in the casting numbers, but the head number does.

    I don't see where either of the next two motors work with the information available. Are you sure they are nailheads? If not, have a look at "Visually Identifying a 1960's or '70's GM engine" also linked above.

    Of maybe someone else will recognize the numbers you have supplied.

    V8439294
    V = V8 (V prefix drop in 1955 when engine number 1,000,000 reached)
    843929 = sequential number, range for 1955 was 720,080 to 1,460,022
    4 = Series 40/Special making it a 264

    stamped in block 1933418 - are you sure this is correct because I939II94 looks more like the stamped engine serial number (Buick used a stamp for the 1's that looked like an I) plus the engine number can't end in an 8 because there was no series 80, so assuming I939II94 is actually the stamped engine serial number:

    19391194
    1939119 = sequential number, range for 1956 started at 1,460,023
    4 = Series 40/Special making it a 322 w/ 2 bbl carb (only 322 made in 1956)

    B9173692 (this is a Canadian built engine)
    B = 322 with 2 bbl carb from Series 4400/Special
    9 = automatic transmission
    173692 = sequential number, range for 1956 was 167,001 to 182,000

    Thanks for your help----I am quite certain of the numbers, but I'll check again. I am trying to assemble a reliable, rebuilt engine for my 56 special convertible, and appreciate any help .
