    Help, can't identify engine from number.

    Dear Buick people,

    I am new to this game, got myself a 59 Electra with a 401 nailhead in it. I dialled the engine number in for more info but nothing came up. The number starts 7F, does this match up with a 59? I need some bits n bobs and want to make sure I am saying the right things.

    Many thanks in advance.

    In 1959 the car serial number and the engine number are the same. See here on how to decode the car serial number:

    https://www.teambuick.com/reference/years/59/59_vin.php
    https://www.teambuick.com/reference/years/59.php

    7 = Series 4700/Electra
    F = 1959

    Only the 401 was available in the Electra in 1959.

    You can also ID the engine from the engine production code, see these links:
