    2002 LeSabre DIC/Temp Gauge Sender Location

    With the 2 wire cable connector Disconnected from the ECT/computer sensor, from a cold start I can watch the DIC and temperature gauge readings rise to 170~190 and sometimes 210.
    The dealers drawings say the ECT sensor is used. Located under the thermostat. There must be another sensor, but where is it.
    Any thoughts appreciated.

    Are the wires of the connector that you disconnected a yellow and a black? The only coolant sensor that SHOULD be on the engine is indeed below the thermostat. If you disconnect it, the sensor should send a -40*F signal to the PCM, from there the PCM shares that with the IPC, which under normal conditions should then read full cold!

    2002 LeSabre DIC/Temp Gauge Sender Location - Continued

    Hi Twotone,
    Thanks for the reply. I disconnected the yellow and black wires from the ECT sensor below the thermostat. (ECT varies from 6.14K ohms @ 60*F to 360 ohms @ 130*F etc).
    With ECT Disconnected;
    Started engine from cold. Both fans come on full. I can watch the IPC DIC readout and Temp Gauge rise to around normal readings.
    (but take an abnormally long time to reach normal and tend to vary somewhat which is what got me started on this). Repaced the thermostat with a 192*F unit. Same operation. Which makes me wonder if the ECT sensor is OK but the elusive one is defective.
    The schematics I have and the dealer's technician's and parts computer schematics show only the ECT sensor ??? I hope to replace the upper intake manifold in the Spring and will do a thorough search then
    but would like to figure this out sooner.
    Any help appreciated. cheers, dave dbm8@shaw.ca
