    1963 Riviera questions

    I have a 1963 Riviera with a 1964 engine and transmission. The car has a late model year manufacture date. The installation looks correct and I was told there is a possibility it was done at the factory. Does anybody know if that is possible?

    1963 Riviera w/ 1964 engine and transmission

    Car vin# 7J1045782
    engine # 8K1019574
    trans # BN64-11736
    The reason I asked is the trans cross member looks original and It doesn't seem to make sense that somebody replaced the engine and transmission with 1964 parts. Let me know if this info helps. Thanks

    1963 Riviera questions

    Engine codes out to a 64 Electra. Trans codes for a 64 TH400 for a 425 single 4 bbl. The vins and partial vins would match if they were from the original car. Someone probably wanted to up grade from the 401 and Dynaflow to a 425 and TH400. I would guess the trans, supports and linkages were pulled from a 64 Riv.

    7 = Series 4700/Riviera
    J = 1963 model year
    1 = built at Flint, MI
    045782 = sequential number, range was 001001 to 128398 for Flint, MI built fullsize cars for 1963

    8K1019574
    8 = Series 4800/Electra 225
    K = 1964 model year
    1 = built at Flint, MI
    019574 = sequential number, range was 001001 to 233508 for Flint, MI built cars for 1964

    1957 was the first year the car serial number and the engine serial number match for Buick's. Someone has replaced the engine and trans at some point, but it was not done at the factory. Based on the car serial number, I think your cars build date is 01B, which would be second week of January 1963. This would be an early model year build date, not a late model year build date. The trim tag on the firewall should have the build date on it. The latest 1963 Rivi I've seen with serial number 7J1125792 (body number 39842 out of 40000), has a build date of 07C (third week of July 1963). Car 3K1019783 has a 10C build date (third week of October 1963) , so about 10 months between the two serial numbers you posted. Model year switch over usually occurred in August.

    After googling your car serial number 7J1045782, I found this link with a picture of the trim tag:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-Buick-R...p2047675.l2557

    Build date is 01B and body number is 16319 out of 40,000.
