1970 Buick Electra 225 custom convertible question

Heelo all, new here. We have a 1970 Buick Electra 225 custom convertible with 455. I looked for the Engine codes but the block must have been machined because the are not there. The cast #'s at the rear of the block where trans bolts to engine shows 455 and the #'s 1241735 VIN # IS 484670H150641

The engine has a EGR valve on it which is confusing me. Didnt think those came into play till 1973 anyway any help would be great trying to determine what year engine is. tHANKS

These links should help you find the engine production code number, which should be between the two rear spark plugs and the exhaust manifold on the drivers side. Once you find the code you can lookup the year:

AF is the 1975 version of the 455ci with only 7.9:1 compression and 205 SAE Net hp.

if correct, this is significantly down on power and 10.5:1 compression from the SF code 455ci which should be 370 Gross HP in a 1970.

Gross HP gives a higher number than SAE Net so you can't directly compare 1970 to 75 but you're likely down some 90hp over what should be in there.

on the plus side, the 75 block is heavier duty, has the larger oil pickup and the 800cfm Quadrajet. it's a better base to build from than the 1970 which can be a bit brittle. heads and pistons in the 75 are useless if you're looking for big power though.
