Hi, I've just taken possession of a '49 Buick sedanette. Very nice, solid, original car. However, the 4 bonnet hood latches don't work very well. When I release one side and lift it up to support it with the central rod, the other side tends to come loose. I've noticed that the pins don't appear to hook in to the pilot holes in the latches very well (on either side). When I lift the hood (doesn't matter from which side), the hood latches rotate upwards as they should, but the back ones (closer to the windshield) lift a lot higher than the front ones which doesn't seem right. There doesn't appear to be any springs to hold the latch mechanisms from rotating upwards. Maybe there isn't meant to be?!

Also, because the back lifts further than the front of the hood, the front of hood tends to catch on the guards/fenders.

A very complicated system! My '42 with the spear releases on the side of the hood worked much better!

Cheers,

Lloyd
