    jag trans fit a buick ? ?

This is an old thread but I don't know how to start a new one. A few years ago My son helped a local wrecking yard crush cars and got a lot of "free " parts. I claimed a 401 buick engine and dyno trans with 15 min of run time after a rebuild I want to use it in a glass 32 roadster project. Years a go I had a 364 in a willys and a 401 in a 56 cameo and like the Buick engines. My step son is doing a jaguar suspension swap into a 46 pickup and I have read that jaguar used the Buick TH 400 trans. Will the Jag work on the Buick 401, what is involved in flex plate - starter fit up / Thanks for reading.

The st400 on the nailhead has a short bell housing compared to other engines. This is because the nailhead has a flange that is cast into the engine that mates to the transmission bell. This short bell allowed it to use adapters for various engines between the bell and engine without any other adapters for crank. You will need one of the adapters for the nailhead transmission to jag. I would not know where to tell you where to look for these as the nailhead st400 was last built in 66. Maybe a jag site would be helpful?

Because of the short bellhousings allowing the use of adapters by various manufacturers was an early use for the "nails" ST/TH400's universal design. These were used on Jeeps, AMC & Rolls Royce. There may be others also.

I heard the th400s in the jags weren't interchangeable with the other TH400s
