    Oil filter

Any idea why my old man would have run in and out hoses from the oil filter housing to a frame mounted housing to the right of the radiator as you are looking down to it. We just inherited it a few months ago so I took it the a shop to get it up on racks so I could look at everything and noticed it when we went to change the oil. Interesting that the recommended filter is a PH25 but yet is is using a PH8A on the frame mounted housing.

If a transplanted motor, maybe the filter was too close to the frame when installed?

I have a "95 Bronco and I have a remote filter because the original one was hard to get to and when you removed the filter it made a big mess and hard to clean up. This might have been the same reason for the remote installation on your Buick.

Here's a possible explanation - I went to change the oil in my wife's 1962 Impala. It originally came with a cartridge oil filter inside a canister however, it had been changed to an adaptor (Mr. Gasket junk - I believe) with a regular spin on oil filter. It's a Chevy right!!! So, I got a WIX chevy oil filter. Should screw on - right???? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Turns out - the adaptor had threads for a Ford filter (which is the PH8A filter - I believe). I verified with Mr. Gasket - and sure enough - they sell both Chevy oil filter adaptors - one for a Chevy filter or one for a Ford filter.

So - in your case - maybe the housing came the same way - either a Chevy or a Ford.

    Thanks,

Let's back up a little. What car is this motor in and what motor do you think it may be? Could you get a picture of the engine and engine bay on a phone and post it up here? That would help a lot!

Ok here is a little background. Pops bought this 62 Electra in 64, drove it for about 10 years, gave it to his brother who kept it for 25 years approx. Pops bought it back in early 2000, drove it back to Texas, somewhere around 2005 the motor blew and as best as I can tell, he bought a 60' block and then rebuilt the entire car inside and out. He passed in 2013 and now the car is in my garage well kept, the wonder bar radio still works and I even have the original keys. When he tried to put that engine back in the oil filter would not fit so he ran a remote to the frame, hope this makes sense. We love the car and take it out for a spin once week or so. Will try to attach some pics.

IF this is a 1960 engine, there were only two options available: 364 and 401.

the 401 is a taller deck engine, you should be able to measure the distance between the valve covers:

    hey, Bob, your note says
"Try this, measure between the bolt holes..."

don't you think they need to know *which* bolt holes you're talking about?

Yeah, Bob only says bolt holes. Those of us in the know, know what he's talking about. But, he should put "Intake" to clarify for those who don't.
