Hello! Recently I decided to replace all rear suspension and brake parts in my 1960 Electra 225. So at that point I took everything out of the car and I thought it would also be a good moment to change axle oil seals, bearings and differential gasket. Now I will need to fill the axle with new oil, so which one I should use? Over the internet I have found that originally in the fifties 90W was used but people were also using 80w90, 95w145, 85w140. I have a standard diff without posi. So which oil would be best?
Thanks!
Mat
The oil you should use would be hypoid gear 80-90. According to the manual they recommend 80, I don't know if that is because that is what they used in the early 60's ( a bit before my interest ) but by the mid 60s 80/90 gear oil was common.
