    Transmission question

    Hi,

I have a 62 Buick. I start it all the time, but it's just been sitting there, it seems to be shifting funny. I changed the fluid and filter with no change at all. I've been driving it every other day or so to see if it works it way out.
    Thanks,

I believe that the Dual Path is operated by linkage. With that being said if the trans. has worked previously my 1st. guess would be that the linkage is somehow bound-up/rusty. You could pull the trans. & have it rebuilt only to have the same problem afterwards.
Just a thought. Before I will usually get TOO involved with something I try & diagnose the heck out of it using the KISS principal, Keep It Simple Stupid.

The dual path has a lever on the trans which is connected by linkage to the throttle. It serves the purpose of a shift modulator. It is strictly mechanical instead of vacuum. It works basically like the cable on the 2004r and 700 series. As more throttle movement delays the shift, your linkage is likely sticking or rusted up like Tom said. I think the lever, with the linkage unhooked should have a spring return internally and move freely. A liberal dose of wd40 may get everything freed up.
