Clutch chatter.....new clutch / rebuilt engine

    69 Skylark 350 / 3 speed manual

I just had the engine rebuilt and a new clutch installed and the clutch chatter is really bad .

Anyone had this chatter problem ? It seems more like an alignment issue than the clutch itself .

This also happened 5 years ago when the clutch was replaced.....the mechanic replaced the clutch 3 times and resurfaced the flywheel twice before the chatter stopped . At least that's what he told me .

Any advice / thoughts on this matter would be appreciated .

    Thanks

Something loose: motor mounts, trans mount, loose trans bolts, loose bell housing bolts, crossmember bolts, etc. Sometimes the clutch or pressure plate but that would be my last guess.

    clutch chatter

I have found the most common cause is a bad disc because of a flattened cushion spring. The center of the disc's have a large wavy spring, this acts a cushion between the two clutch friction materials. We have all our clutch built by Ft Wayne Clutch in IN.. 1-800-clutches, excellent clutch builder.. Other causes are bad engine or trans mounts, hot spots in the flywheel and pressure plate.
