67 Skylark Body Plate and VIN Mismatch

Hello, I have an interesting situation in trying to ID my 67 Skylark 2dr post. It's VIN and Body Plate do not match. Specifically The Code in the VIN Starts out 44307 where as the Body Plate is 44407. Both Appear to be in original placement. I've done a little research and I would assume there are only two options: Someone Tampered with one of the Tags or I have a lack of knowledge on the subject. Please any info would be great. I'm savvy enough to utilize teambuick's VIN and body Plate decoders but figured some expert would give me a definitive answer. Willing to post pics.

67 Skylark Body Plate and VIN Mismatch

Hello, I tried posting this earlier today, but don't see that it has posted. I have a 67 Skylark 2dr post. The VIN begins with 44307 but the Body Plate has it as 67-44407Fl1. I thought that the two plates would match in that regard. It doesn't jive because one indicates V6 and the other V8. Little help would be great. Thanks!

67 buick skylark has a vin that begins 44307 and the body plate is 44407. Just curious if anyone could elaborate on this.

    i'm assuming this is a v8?

4 43 is the base v6 Skylark code while 4 44 is the v8 Skylark. HOWEVER, the base v6 could be optioned into a v8. this was exactly how the "California GS" cars came about. 2dr post cars with a v6 VIN but a 4 barrel 340 v8 installed and special trim tags.

    this would explain the discrepancy.

last seven digits of the EIN ( Engine Identification Number ) stamping should also match the VIN if this is original factory. and, of course, the factory option sheet would code it, if you can find it.

Your car is correct. There is a difference between the Buick VIN and the Fisher body tag, especially in 1967. Read this thread (start at the beginning even though it might not seem relevant):
