Thread: from 225 to a 455

Also, your v6 radiator is not going to cut it. Your going to need an aftermarket unit that fits. It may or may not have provisions for trans cooling. Be ready to add a trans cooler in front of the radiator. Add front springs to your list. You will be dragging the front bumper with a 455 over V6 springs.

Great. That's more than enough reason to use the th350.
So here's my list so far:

    73 455 motor (Stock)
    th350 transmission (stock)
    TA aluminum frame pads
    stock trans. mount
    66 skylark manual driveshafts
    8.2 rear end
    455 radiator
    2" lowering springs
    tubular control arms

This would keep me within a low budget swap, while I take my time and build my performance '70 long block and th400.

Stock exhaust manifolds will work, but you will need a dual exhaust system from there.

Usually the v6 cars had a better ratio in the rear. If it were posi, you would be set for while.

if you have problems with the 8.2, i'd switch to an 8 1/2" rear. they have a gazillion gearset options for those and they're cheap.

you don't have driveshaft straps listed on your list. safety straps can vary from low-rent options like a loop of chain bolted to the belly pan that is allowed to droop underneath the drive shaft to high quality drag racing units, that are welded and attach to the frame rails and provide 360* of protection ( ie - the drive shaft isn't going to come through your floor boards ).

practically every racing series that has rear wheel drive requires driveshaft straps as a safety measure. it's an April Fools joke ... right up until you snap a u-joint at +5000 rpm.

here's one of the higher end ones from Summit:

but like i say, you can buy 5' of chain and some nuts and bolts and fender washers and accomplish pretty much the same thing.
