    Best oil for Hydro-Lectric system?

I am working on a '52 Roadmaster hardtop with the Hydro-Lectric system for the windows and bench seat. The 2 rear windows and driver's side window are really sluggish, although the temp in my garage is also below freezing and I don't know how much of an impact that has on hydraulic operation. Before I start taking the upholstery panels off and tinkering with the adjustment bolts to see if there is mechanical interference, can somebody recommend what the best refill oil should be for the reservoir of the hydraulic pump? What are you guys using?

quite a bit. that's why engine manufacturers recommend thinner viscosities for cold weather operation.

i wouldn't bother with the hydraulics until it warms up to at least the 50s this spring, then flush and refill the system.

Originally the system was filled with brake fluid. That's thin enough to work in cold weather. Now a days it's recommended to flush the complete system entirely & refill with ATF like DEX 111. If a line bursts or there is a leak with brake fluid it will destroy ANY paint it may come in contact with including stripping any under coatings/coatings. Main reason for ATF.
Hydro electric recommends using ATF111 on ALL their replacement parts.
    Google it for their web-site.

Thanks for the replies...I had figured the cold weather (well below freezing since I've owned the car) might be a factor, although the window closest to the pump operates at a reasonable speed. But yeah I plan on waiting until it gets a little warmer in the garage before diagnosing the problem anyhow. Good info on the ATF, Tom.
