I think the color looks great! I see you have the spark plug cover. I've been looking for one but everyone seems to think they are made of gold.

    263 rod big end width

    anyone know this dimension?

  5. #35
I assume you are asking about the outside dimension of the rod, rather than the journal. The big end of the rod is 3.25 inches wide. The rod cap is silghtly wider, at 3.375 inches wide. The rod is 1 inch thick at the big end, and .75 inches thick at the small end. All measurements made with a tape measure on original equipment rods out of a 1950 263. (No micrometer at hand.)

    263 connecting rod

Thanks for the info on the width, I was wondering if anyone had a picture of one of these rods and with all the guys talking about bearing troubles, if there are any decent
    cores out there?

No issue with cores. I have a spare parts car. Plus it's just bearings. Rods themselves rarely are damaged. This is from my 1950 263. 2.255" journal

called EGGE again. Hastings won't have the rings done until the 8th. which would mean I wound not get them until the week after. Opted for Grant Rings $30 cheaper and in stock. will have this week. so this weekend I'll start assembly.

Ok. Here's a pic of old vs new timing chain. New one has about as much slop as old. Since there is slop should I load counterclockwise and then torque? And I cannot find cam bolt torque spec.
