I am at wits end with performance of Rochester 4GC carb in my stock 62 Skylark V8 215. Carb has been remanufactured twice and tinkered with several times. Now performs well when engine at operating temp, but cold starting is a bear. Choke has been adjusted several times but getting worse rather than better. My cold starting technique is to press accelerator once to set choke, then let off accelerator and turn ignition. Have confirmed choke valve is closed, but engine will not start on first crank. After repeated accelerator peddle depressions, engine will turn over but will then die when letting off accelerator....until engine warms up.

I have been encouraged by my mechanic to swap the 4GC for a new Edelbrock performance 500 cfm (Edelbrock #1403). Will the 500 cfm perform well on my 215 and if so, what if any adjustments will need to be made to it out of the box? I am ok with the investment on a new modern carb if it will improve performance.
