    Smile Hello from Ohio. Finally bought my 1st Buick, a 1963 Lesabre 4 door hardtop

    I sure could use a little help.
    Some people find cars in barns, I found mine on the side of the road.
    It's all original, right down to the paint.
    Help please???

    Thanks for the reply friends,

    As I said, I found my "new" [first] Buick on the side of the road.
    After a year and a half, the owner finally produced a good title.
    My 63 Buick Lesabre four door hardtop is not my "favorite" car but she found me.
    Besides, I was also born in 1963.
    Sure she has rust in the normal places but the best part is she is untouched.
    There are no dents, no Bondo, no signs of ever being in any accidents, all the glass is good and the trim is intact, and the interior looks extremely nice.
    The 401 2 bbl "Nailhead" runs well and is the same one that was placed between her framerails 52 years ago.
    I plan on doing a full frame off restoration.

    I'm having a hard time finding some info:
    trim tag ACC is A6, F4, I6, K6, N2 and S.
    I found all codes except the S..... "HELP"

    Rear diff ID info, stamped on front of passenger side is:
    CED 1354792, CED 1354793, CED 1364792 or CED 1364793.
    The stamping is very hard to read....."HELP"

    I have no reason to believe the trans is not the original.
    I can't see or get to the numbers yet.

    I just want to know exactly what I have and what I need before I start.
    Thanks everyone.

    Her Serial Number is: 4J1021164
    She is number 20,163 of 50,420 born in 1963

    The few things I am short is a complete working OEM bumper jack assembly and a complete air cleaner assembly with correct sticker.
    Engine is a 1963 401 2 bbl JR code, would that be a 322 lb ft tq air cleaner sticker
    or a 424 lb ft tq @ 4400 RPM sticker?

    Help please, thank you.

    the JR is the 424 lbft engine. no 401 was rated less than 400 lbft, not even the low compression export engine. even the 2v 300ci SBB ( 1964-67 ) was rated at 310 lbft.

    "322" is the actual cubic inch displacement of the original ( 1953-56 ) Nailhead engine, not a torque rating. the 322 is also one of the very few Buick v6 / v8 engines to not have a torque rating that was higher than it's displacement. Buick has been exceeding the cubes with pound-feet for pretty much every engine since the 2nd gen Nail 364ci in 1957.

    4 = Series 4400/LeSabre
    J = 1963 model year
    1 = built at Flint, MI
    021164 = sequential number, range was 001001 to 128398 for Flint, MI fullsize cars
    (i.e., your car was the 20,164th built at Flint out of 127,398 fullsize cars, not 50,420 which is the total production of style 4439. The body number on the trim tag will tell you which number your car is out of the 4439 built at Flint, but not out of all 4439)

    Accessory option codes (ACC.):
    A6 = Automatic transmission

    F4 = Safety Group (Back up lights, glare proof mirror, parking brake signal light, safety buzzer and trip odometer, courtesy lights)

    I6 = Soft-Ray Tinted Glass

    K6 = Custom Padded Cushions

    N2 = Air Conditioner

    S = Remote Control Side View Mirror
