I have done this before but never with a Buick. Find a round shaft that fits snug into the bushing. Take a slice or two of bread, tear it up into pieces that you can stuff into the bushing. When almost full, insert the round shaft into the bushing and hammer on it. You will compact the bread and you will probably have to stuff more bread into it. Just keep doing the sequence and pretty soon the bushing will get pushed out. It works and the bread does not have to be fresh.

My mistake on the above thread I misread your request. I thought you were talking about removing the pilot bushing, but that method still works.

To remove the throw-out bearing sleeve from the bell housing after the trans is removed, use a screwdriver and carefully pry out the tapered spring retainer. The sleeve then should be able to be pushed out towards the rear of the car. If someone has used gasket sealer, it maybe stuck, but all the ones I have done come out quite easily. Check to be sure you re-install the same as it came out. Replacements are available. Buick used this from
at least '39 to 1950 - maybe later.
