Manual or automatic?

Has anyone done this? How happy are you with the results? Which tranny did you use?

Thanks. I am already familiar with the adapters. I am looking for how it performed and such. I am considering having a Art Morrison chassis built for the car to use the straight 8 with an overdrive trans. We had the Dynaflow rebuilt, which still works fine, but a year or so after the rebuild it started leaking again. I would like to keep the look of a stock vehicle under the hood, but be better suited for long road trips, faster acceleration and cruise speeds, better handling and braking. Or we may sell the car and get something better suited to long travel.

Unfortunately Art Morrison doesn't offer a chassis accepting a straight 8 the last time I contacted them. Mustang II suspension is not HD enough for the weight of the Buick. I have a friend with a built 263 backed up by the 700R4. It runs well. Jerry Dutweiller told me the smaller GM OD automatic's gear ratios and torque converter was better suited for the Buick 8.

When you say the weight of the Buick, you mean the motor not the car, correct? I think I would sell the car before going to another motor. Too nice of a car to go that far with.
Ya the reason I was thinking of the 200r4 is the closer 1st-2nd gearing, not as severe of a drop as the 700r4.

That car is beautiful! Is it a 3-tone, or is the roof the same color as the lower body?
