where do i find engine number on 72 skylark

Hi can anyone help me to find the engine number on my 72 skylark. I think I've found the engine code WC 177 but doesn't seem to be able to find the engine number.

the EIN is just an abbreviated VIN. beyond 'numbers matching' the car and motor, it doesn't really accomplish much.

however, if you REALLY want to find it, it should be on the front of the drivers side cylinder bank. you'll probably have to pull the power steering pump ( or something ) to see it.

Thanks for your help. I'm in Queensland, Australia and we need to have EIN for registration. Hopefully we can see it without pulling anything off.

I've taken off the power steering pump and there are no numbers. Do you have any other suggestions to were I might find the EIN. It is a 350 2bbl V8. In Australia we need an EIN to register a car. Is it a possibility that there may not be an EIN on the engine at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Bob the 2nd image you sent helped. I have found the EIN, which over here in Australia saves a lot of hassles when I go to register it next week.
