Thread: Header Wraps

    Header Wraps

I run a '67 GS400. I am considering headers, but I am concerned about under hood temperatures. I am wondering what experience anyone has had with header wraps. I am thinking that a well wrapped set of headers could keep under hood temperatures even cooler than the oe manifolds.
    What's your opinion/experience?

I've found 'em to work pretty well. Big down side is they have rotted the headers on my chevy. Weren't the highest quality to start with. I've used the stainless header paint from Eastwood with great results. Kept quite a bit of the heat in the header.

I know the turbo guys swear by them since they reduce energy loss due to heat transfer. Keeping the heat in the pipe means more power to the turbo. I think a ceramic coating would produce similar results, but it is an expensive process that can not be done at home like wrap. I could also see how wrap could hold moisture and condensation. I have a set of used stainless headers that are already wrapped for my turbo Subaru. I will use them when and if that rebuild ever gets underway.
