1946 248ci No spark through distributor

My friend and I have been working on getting a fairly rough '46 Super 50 running, and we've run into an issue with the ignition system. There is definitely spark coming from the coil, and with a plug straight out of the coil, it definitely has spark. With the coil connected to the distributor cap, there is no spark at any of the plug outputs. I tried getting the coil to arc to the input on the distributor cap, and it wouldn't.

I'm not very familiar with points style distributors, and I am not entirely sure where our problem might be. I'm wondering if the coil is weak, or if the original condenser is bad, or maybe something I'm just missing completely. I'd really appreciate any suggestions that might lead to figuring the issue out!

I had the same problem, and it turned out to be the coil wire. Mine has two wire clips that stick into each end of the wire to provide a good contact with the cap/coil. The problem was that the wires had corroded and were insulated by the corrosion. Either clean the one you have or replace the coil wire with a new one. I cleaned mine and the engine cranked up for the first time and ran fine. I will now replace all the spark plug wires.on mine.

Is the button on the inside of the distributor cap in place to connect to the rotor? On some distributor caps they can fall out.
