    Hello, looking for answers!

    Hello Team Buick,
I found this site while searching for information for my wife's uncle's car. He has a 65 4 door Electra 225 with a Super Wildcat 2X4 engine with a Super Turbine A/T. It is an LX code motor. Any advice or tips about this motor would be greatly appreciated. It is complete, including the Carter AFB's. We are curious about the valves, they don't seem to be as small as we had expected, the heads are early castings with April 64 casting numbers. He also wonders if the 425 is the same block as a 455 Stage 1.
    Thank you.

The 1967 and up 400, 430 and 455 big block Buick engines use entirely different heads and valves then the 1957-1966 364, 401 and 425 Nailhead engines. The Nailheads could use a 1.87" intake and 1.50" exhaust valve (a 1.94" Chevy intake valve could be installed with some work). The non stage one big block Buick heads used 2" intake and 1.625" exhaust valves, and the stage one big blocks used 2.12" intakes and 1.75" exhaust valves.

    Thank you!

Is the block design/casting the same as the 455 and is it possible to run a Stage 1 cam in the 425? To be exact, a Stage 1 455 GSX variety.

The 425 block is not the same as the 455, so the Stage 1 Cam for a 455 will not work.
Tom Telesco can help you with a correct cam!

totally different. the #1 cylinder on the Nail is the forward passenger side. this is because the cylinder offset between the banks is passenger side forward. all the other Buick v8s, small and big block, are drivers bank forward like most other GM engines ( Poncho is also passenger bank forward ).

all the rear distro engines on this page are either Nail, Chevy or Olds.

if you go to the visual quick reference you'll see several other obvious differences between a Nail and a BBB.

Buick nailheads ended production in 1966. 401 and 425 were the powerhouses.
The Stage 1 455 came out in 1970. Different engine/block.

Also, GSX was a trim package and not specific to an engine.
