    1948 Roadmaster - Customized

We recently purchased a 48 Roadmaster that has been heavily customized into a fastback styled convertible. This is not the usual front and back seat convertible, it's a two seater front seat only. Whoever customized this old car had a great eye and kept the swooping body lines intact. The trunk and surround area have been cut down to a lower profile, with some similarities to the sedanette styling.

Our plans are to fully restore it - frame off - adding a few more subtle custom design elements. We want to keep the great 48 Buick visual style intact - no hot rodding in our plans, other than increasing the engine output. We're just beginning to research the history of this car. To date, we know it was located in the Milwaukee area and then in Chicago. It went through a garage fire, was bought and taken to St Louis, where it's been since around 2009. It has a lot of old time lead work done behind the seating area, down the fenders and on the trunk surround. It's definitely a unique and unusual ride.

Please take a look.......if you've seen this old car when it was in it's better days or can offer any history, we'd greatly appreciate the info.

Thanks.....glad to be here. Tickled to find your forum with all this Buick knowledge.

We're going to rebuild the engine that's in it - the Fireball 320 straight 8. This is too cool an engine to not use it - lol.

We'll engineer custom intake and exhaust, do some mild porting and polishing on the head, add modern pistons and rings and use a 12 volt electronic ignition. We plan to put a 700R4 overdrive automatic transmission in it. The original Dynaflow will be put up for sale. ....and we'll upgrade the braking system.

    The Choosing of Color

Where do you begin? The array of auto paint color choices is mind boggling - lol. This is where we've started....who knows if this will stick all the way from concept to finish.

A candy dye with cut glass pearl. This should make those rounded Buick curves glow.

....and the initial color rendering. Still too light, we will go darker, yet to a rich jewel tone.
