My first guess would be a dry and worn ujoint or carrier bearing. Can you get it up on jack stands with rear wheels off the ground, then maybe you can pinpoint the noise.
Hello,I 'm very happy with my 63' riviera and it drive very smooth!
But vhen I put it in reverse gear to make a back track, I heard a sound like a rockin'chair that need oil!?: Confus:
I would like to know what is this. Is it normal??
Some boby can tell me please?
Thanks!
Walter
(Transmission is an original twin tubine dynaflow)

I do like you said and it was difficult to pinpoint the noise. So I put off the entire transmission and greased it and than it seem that it's now OK. I wait and see.
Thank you for your help.
But thre is some thing I don't understand :forward there is no noise and back track noise !!? (u joint and bearing are the same)
Yes, if they are dry, you would think they would be noisy all the time. It may have something to do with the reverse torque shifting driveline and differential angles. It could also be some brake hardware dragging in the drum.
With the car jacked up, did you try shaking the driveshaft back and forth at each joint, the driveline has to be unloaded (in neutral) to effectively check for looseness.
What did you mean about "putting off the entire transmission and greasing it" ?
