    1955 century riviera..........what's this noise???

I am waiting for a shop manual but in the meantime I want to solve one problem. I have this "thing" dangling underneath just before the torque tube connection (its the beige-ish flat thing). It hangs on its tubes, swaying and making a lot of noise everytime it hits something. First: what is it, a cooler of some sort. Secondly: is there a support missing?P1000035.jpg Of course is this a first class newbie question, but we all have to start somewhere.

If it has water lines connected to it, it is definitely a transmission cooler. This was the stock setup on early Dynaflows and it should be attached securely to the transmission. If you are missing the stock bracket you could cobble one out of pipe strapping or anything else that is easy to work with.

Does it have heater hoses connected to it? I don't see any in the pic. It looks more like an add-on or a re-purposed cooler of some type. Might it be a radiator style cooler that was removed from a radiator tank?

It does have hoses that are connected to it, they go under and over the gearbox. I can imagine that there are more efficient coolers than this one. But first I will get it secured. Tnx.

    Hi Ray,
Is it wise to put in another up to date cooler (one I can imagine more efficient)?
