Perhaps, but it would help us to give a more intelligent answer if you could supply a little basic information first, like:
    1. What year, make and model of car do you have? I can read your user name, but it's safer not to assume anything.
    2. When you turn the key to "start" does the starter crank the engine?
    3. When the starter cranks the engine, do you have spark at the plugs?
    4. Is there anything else you might like to add that could give us a clue about the problem, like unusual noises, for example?

    (which burned up)

this is a serious problem. you need to back off before you burn the whole car down.

what were you connecting that you burnt the wires? 12ga wire should be more than sufficient for everything but the direct feed from batt + and ground to the starter.

I have a 65 buick electra 401 v8 , the engine was cranking ( till I tried to fix) but was not getting spark to the plugs , I ran a jumper wire from the battery to the ceramic resistor and the car started and then the wire burned up and now it won't crank .

here's the section for electrical in the 66 chassis manual. 66 was the last year of Nail production, so the electrical diagrams are likely very similar too or exactly the same as your car. Buick wouldn't have put a lot of money into changing something that was only going to be in production one year.

you can take the starter off of the car very easily. should be two or three bolts, batt wire and solenoid wire. many parts stores will test the starter for free.

once you verify that nothing is wrong with the starter, get a 12v test light or voltmeter / multimeter and start chasing the circuitry.
