    Area 51 Skunk Works transportation

    this page is really a fascinating look back at ~1960 era California and the early days of the SR-71 program. i didn't see any Buicks ... but whatcha gonna do?

    Hi Bob,

    I liked seeing your post and did not know much about the movement of the planes when I worked at the Skunkworks, Bldg 199,
    in Burbank. In 1966 I was drafted into the Army from "behind the curtain" as they used to say. Fun to see the pictures.

    didnt see any buicks cause they took the engines out of them. haha

    Found an old Honda trail bike buried in the sand out on the desert. We dismantled it and got it running.
    Not a thread of rust on it. Don't know what they did with it.

    My transportation out there was a early 50s Jeep that was still in cosmoline. In low range, that little rascal would crawl
    over anything the desert could throw at it.
